In the month of Moacyr Luz’s birthday, Orquestra Bamba Social releases the album Orquestra Bamba Social revisits Moacyr Luz, in honour of the Rio composer.
The album consists of 9 tracks that reinterpret some of Moacyr’s most striking works and includes a theme written by the band.
Just like a “Happy Birthday” letter, Orquestra Bamba Social opens the album with the original 5 de Abril, which presents the poet with a composition in his honour and on the date of his birth. We are then led to remember iconic songs such as “Cabô”, “Meu Pai”, “Vida da Minha Vida” and “Anjo da Velha Guarda”, here dressed in new guises and arrangements, without ever distorting the original works.
To close with a flourish, Moacyr returns the gesture with “Tripeiro“, the last song of this long-playing series, written, composed and performed by himself, in an allusion and reference to the city of Porto, where they met and performed together on numerous occasions.

Recorded between Porto and Rio de Janeiro, this work features the collaboration of 22 musicians, including Paulão 7 Cordas, musician and musical director of Zeca Pagodinho, who in addition to recording guitar, participated in the mixing and co-production of the album. The Orchestra already has a range of collaborations with prominent Brazilian artists, such as Marcelo D2, Teresa Cristina, Joyce Cândido and Moyseis Marques.
The album Orquestra Bamba Social revisits Moacyr Luz is now available on all digital platforms and will have a limited edition on vinyl records, on a date to be announced.
