Empire of the Sun opens tour in Lisbon with an excellent show
Sagres Campo Pequeno
Lisbon welcomed the Australian band, returning to the stage after a six-year hiatus, for the first show of the tour. It was a show full of light, colour, dance, fantasy, and, of course, Empire of the Sun’s visionary electronic music.
Roi Turbo performed the first half, warming up the fãn for what was to come.

Lisbon was chosen to host the first show of the European tour, a fantasy-filled show, complete with incredible video wall images. The show highlighted songs from Ask That God, their new album, and Walking on a Dream, but also included Ice on the Dune and Two Vines.
The electronic music band opened the show with “Changes,” “The Feeling You Get,” and “Half Mast” on a stage with a large video wall and an inflatable woman’s head, with the costumes and dance routines reminiscent of the Orient and the Land of the Rising Sun.

Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore welcomed them to a nearly full Sagres Campo Pequeno, the audience and Balcony A sold out, fans cheering with every song, set change, or the singer’s appearance in the pit.
“Walking On A Dream,” “We Are The People,” “Alive,” and “High and Low” were epic moments in the Lisbon venue, with the audience seated in the balcony unable to resist jumping out of their seats and dancing to the music. Luke Steele, always very active on stage, changed his outfit several times, engaging the audience more and more with each song. He confessed his love for Portugal and his last time here, where he played after Prince.

He also added that, as the first show of the tour, it was like the first kiss, which even had some technical issues, and Luke took the opportunity to talk to the audience. Empire of the Sun now heads to Madrid, Benidorm, and Barcelona in Spain, before heading to Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, with several shows, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Georgia, and Turkey. Then, on to the United States, Salt Lake City, Utah, Reno, Nevada, San Diego and Santa Barbara, California, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Austin, Texas, Oklahoma City, New Orleans, Louisiana, Nashville, Tennessee, and Austin, Texas, which will take them on the road until at least October.

This fantastic concert was hosted in Portugal by House of Fun. The photos we present were taken with a cell phone, as we didn’t have access to the pit, as usual.
