The Portuguese’s favorite reused products
Technology, fashion and culture are the main categories sought after by consumers
Lisbon, Porto and Braga are the regions where the most research was carried out for reused products in the first half of the year.
The demand for reused products has been growing in Portugal, with 83% of consumers admitting to having already bought or sold reused products, according to a recent study by Wallapop, a platform for buying and selling reused items. According to the same source, the focus of the Portuguese in the first half of the year was centered on the categories of technology, fashion and culture.
The statistics reveal precisely these trends, with some of the most sought-after items focusing particularly on technology, such as Nintendo Switch, iPhone, Kobo and GoPro.
According to data from the study, taking into account that refurbished technological products are among the first purchase options for almost 8 out of 10 Portuguese people, this trend is expected to last.
Also from the perspective of sales made, the “Technology” category continues to lead, followed by “Fashion and accessories” and, this time, ending with “Home and Garden”, with some of the best-selling products on the platform including pieces of furniture, in parallel with bags and gaming products.
In geographic terms, the regions where the most searches were recorded on the platform were Lisbon, Porto and Braga, with Setúbal and Aveiro completing the top 5. The months of January, March and April were the most active in terms of searches, suggesting an increase significantly after the beginning of the year celebrations and during the beginning of spring. However, in terms of sales volume, March, April and May were the chosen months, coinciding with the season of seasonal changes, where consumers take the opportunity to renovate their spaces and purchase new products.
These data reveal not only the positive impact that reusing products can have on the environment and consumers’ economy but also the increasing trend towards more responsible forms of consumption by Brazilians, illustrating that, in addition to price, 80 % of Brazilians already see sustainability as a key factor in their purchasing decisions.
