Out.Fest and CoolJazz Festivals nominated for European Festival Awards

Portuguese festivals Out.Fest in Barreiro and Cool Jazz in Cascais are among the finalists of the European Festival Awards, whose winners will be announced on Wednesday in Groningen, The Netherlands.

According to the list of finalists, divided into several categories, the Out.Fest – International Barreiro Exploratory Music Festival, which was held in October 2018 to the 15th edition, is nominated in the Best Small Festival category, which contests with nine other festivals.

EDP CoolJazz, whose 2018 lineup includes David Byrne, Van Morrison and Norah Jones, is nominated in the Green Operations Prize category, among which are The Green Gathering (UK), the NorthSide Festival ( Denmark) and We Love Green (France).

The prizes – which relate to the calendar of festivals of 2018 – are awarded at the opening of the Eurosonic Noorderslag festival.

The European Festival Awards were created in 2009 to, according to the organization, recognize “the hard work, vision and creativity of the festival industry”.

The Eurosonic Noorderslag festival, which runs until Saturday, is simultaneously a music festival and a European platform for the dissemination of music, with conferences and meetings between players from the music industry from all over the world, this year with the participation of artists and Portuguese bands Fire Fire, Whales, The Dude, Keep Razors Sharp and Scúru Fitchádu and the Portuguese-Angolan Diron Animal.

This year, the Eurosonic will pay special attention to the music of the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

In 2017, Portugal was the country focus of the festival, and this translated into a wide presence of artists, bands and agents of Portuguese music.
