OXUM launches Viana do Castelo jewelry collection
OXUM draws on traditional embroidery to create contemporary pieces.
Women dream, jewellery is born. This is the history of OXUM which, since 2014, has created and enchanted with its collections of jewellery entirely inspired by the authenticity of the handkerchiefs of the boyfriends, always done by hand, always with an unexpected and truly contemporary touch.
After the Audaçias collection, the next stop is Viana do Castelo.
Typical Viennese embroidery, with strong reasons as japoneira and camellia, heart and heart-flowers, clover and cloves, the Marias and mariões were the starting point for Carla Mor, co-founder and designer of OXUM, create the 9 pieces that integrate the Vianense collection – three pairs of earrings, two rings, a bracelet, a bracelet, a necklace and a pendant.
But the inspiration does not stop here as Carla tells us: “the richness of this embroidery also brings us elements of bonding, motifs of filling and the most varied points”.
Between simple lines and surprising shapes, incredible details and noble materials are also the fact that each piece is born of a slow production, where a single artisan – master of almost extinct techniques – creates each jewel individually, with attention, with time, with passion.
In fact, passion is the motivating force of OXUM, just look at the stories of the incredible women who were the origin of the embroidery of Viana, as revealed by Idalina Costa, co-founder and responsible for communication and marketing of the brand: “embroidery was a traditional know-how of the rural women who, on the initiative of the Portuguese Women’s Crusade, was transformed into an occupation with economic significance. At the time, men had been mobilized for war and this was a great example of the resilience of these great women who fought against poverty using their hands and art. ”
A resilience that you see and feel in each piece of the Viennese collection, whose names also came from that land by sea planted: Viana, clearly inspired by the legend that gives the town its name – the boatman who falls for Ana, who often said, “I saw Ana.” Idalina adds, “but as passions there are many, we also have ViAurora and ViAmélia … and maybe there will be others.”
