Today, August 9th, the public inauguration of the Boneco de Estremoz Interpretive Center, at the Marqueses da Praia and Monforte Palace.
In the presence of various individuals, who contributed to the realization of this space, the evocative plaque of the center was unveiled, followed by a musical moment, with Rui Moura, and a guided tour of the space.
Within the scope of the Plan for the Valorization and Safeguarding of the Production of Figures in Barro de Estremoz, of the Candidacy project for UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, this Interpretative Center was planned and this space results from the success of the Candidacy and the Valorization and Safeguarding project that frames it.
The main objective of the Interpretive Center is to focus on the present and future of the Boneco de Estremoz, with an exhibition designed to be dynamic in the contents and presentation of the figure, highlighting the producers, in essence the great protagonists of this multi-secular history.
In the permanent exhibition, in an innovative way, a space was created where the individual visitor can try to model a figure in the style of Estremoz. In this way, in addition to theoretical knowledge, the visitor will thus have the opportunity to get to know in practice the specificity of the tradition that is today a World Heritage Site.
On the ground floor, valence is entirely dedicated to the educational area, which has always been the main focus of the Municipal Museum Prof. Joachim Red.
The space can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm, with free entry until the end of October 2021.
