Patrícia Mamona won the silver medal and broke the national record for the triple jump, reaching 15.01 meters, in the fourth attempt of the final of the discipline of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The athlete started right away with a 14.91 mark in the first rehearsal – her best national mark was 14.66 meters, which she reached on July 9th, in the Monaco stage of the Diamante League. Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas won the gold medal with a world record of 15.67 meters, in the sixth and final attempt. The Spanish Ana Peleteiro won the bronze medal with 14.87 meters, a new national record for Spain.
This is the third presence of the Portuguese athlete at the Olympic Games, after sixth place in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro and 13th place in 2012, London.
This was Portugal’s second medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games, after winning the bronze medal in the -100kg category by judoka Jorge Fonseca.
