The Portuguese guitar virtuoso’s debut album is a Museu do Fado Discos edition. It will be available on December 9th.
Pedro de Castro does not live music alone. He has been recording for decades – as a guitarist and producer – with many of the voices of Fado. The time has now come to make a Festim with the voice of his Portuguese Guitar alongside the fado violas of André Ramos, Jaime Santos, Carlos Manuel Proença, João Mário Veiga and Diogo Clemente. Artur Caldeira on classical guitar and Francisco Gaspar on bass guitar are also joined. “I invited the most talented Fado musicians who have been part of my musical journey to accompany me on this record and give their personal stamp to each theme”, says Pedro de Castro. Longtime friends and companions of many nights of partying who bring to this double album a multiplicity of musical languages.
“This record fulfils the old desire to record some instrumentals, pieces, guitars, improvisations, variations and other daydreams that are part of the history of the Portuguese guitar and are unknown to the general public. When I compiled what I wanted to record, I quickly realized that the criterion would be choose the songs I like the most, from my musical imagination and not the songs I usually play. So we reached 21 tracks recorded in a total of 38 songs!”

Festim is also a tribute to the Portuguese guitar repertoire and to the brilliant composers and performers who are still present at Fado nights. Instrumentals that pass from generation to generation and now come together on this record in a personal and contemporary reconstitution of the guitarist. “I hope to arouse curiosity for the research of this immense and rich estate that the Portuguese guitar has“.
