His impressive ability to blend tradition and innovation — a hallmark of his work — has been reflected in a rich and remarkable discography. His most recent work, Mosaico, is proof of this: a deeply original album, which combines the mastery of the guitar with a musical language open to the world, with the collaboration of percussionist José Salgueiro. Mosaico represents the pinnacle of an artistic trajectory guided by boldness, excellence and a constant search for new sounds. In 2025, Pedro Jóia will be on a national and international tour with this new show, which promises to thrill and surprise all audiences.

ABOUT PEDRO JÓIA

Pedro Jóia is one of the most prestigious Portuguese guitarists and composers of the last decades. “Guadiano”, his debut album, was released in 1996, followed by “Sueste”, in 1999. In 2001, he released “Variações Sobre Carlos Paredes”, a tribute to the work of one of his greatest influences. Two years later, he released “Jacarandá”, which featured guests such as Ney Matogrosso, Daniela Mercury, Elba Ramalho and Zeca Baleiro, among others. In 2008, he was awarded the Carlos Paredes Prize for the album “À Espera de Armandinho”.

In 2017, the Pedro Jóia Trio, with Norton Daiello on bass and João Frade on accordion, released “Vendaval”, and in 2020, he recorded and released the solo album “Zeca”, for which he was once again awarded the Carlos Paredes Prize. The strength of José Afonso’s songs, combined with Pedro Jóia’s arrangements and guitar mastery, resulted in an exceptional work. The album went straight to the top of the National Sales Chart, proving to be a real success.

Jóia has collaborated with big names in international music. In Brazil, where he lived between 2003 and 2007, he played and recorded with major figures in MPB such as Simone, Gilberto Gil and Ney Matogrosso, with whom he carried out two major tours. In Portugal, he accompanied important names in fado such as Ricardo Ribeiro, Ana Sofia Varela and Raquel Tavares, exploring new approaches to traditional fado. Between 2013 and 2019, he was part of the fado singer Mariza’s tours and, since 2010, he has been part of the historic band Resistência.

Throughout his career, he has performed several times as a soloist with various orchestras and chamber ensembles, such as the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Venezuela, the Madeira Classical Orchestra, the Macau Chinese Orchestra, the Lisbon Sinfonietta, the Meridional Chamber Orchestra or the Arabesco Quartet, the latter in an all-instrumental show premiered at the CCB in 2019, which brings together sounds present in his repertoire.

In 2025, Pedro Jóia is on tour with the album of new songs “Mosaico”, a true masterpiece that features José Salgueiro on percussion.
