Pedro Moutinho presents Amália and the Poets in Lisbon and Porto

To celebrate Amália Rodrigues’ centenary, Pedro Moutinho created a show whose motto was the selection of some of the most important Portuguese poets sung by Amália Rodrigues.

In the design of this show, the fado singer counted on the photographer and director Sebastião Varela, Amália’s great-nephew. Based on the poems and the historical interpretations of the fado singer, Sebastião Varela created, from photography, a visual imagery to color each theme according to his interpretation of them.

Starting from the word to pay homage to the most important interpreter in the world of Portuguese speaking, Pedro Moutinho will give voice to a careful selection of poets. Camões, Fernando Pessoa, Alexandre O’Neil, Pedro Homem de Mello, David Mourão Ferreira, José Carlos Ary dos Santos, but also Amália Rodrigues, who wrote lyrics for such iconic themes as “Estranha Forma de Vida”, “Trago Fado in the Senses” or “A Lágrima”.

Thus, it is proposed a trip to the world of the poets of Amália through two different art forms. A tribute, at the moment when the fadista’s Centenary is celebrated, through an unprecedented show, in which fado and photography seek a symbiosis to express a joint and current vision of some of the themes that eternalized Amália Rodrigues.
