Pedro Sousa debuts with defeat at the Masters 1,000 in Miami
Portuguese tennis player Pedro Sousa made his first appearance at the Miami Masters 1,000 with a defeat in the first round, in two sets, against Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
The Lisboner, number 111th in the ATP ranking, could not find any arguments to face the French favorite, 74th in the world hierarchy, and ended up giving up the qualification for the second round after an hour and six minutes, by the 6-1 and 6-3 partials.
Herbert, finalist of the ATP 250 in Marseille, made two breaks in the first game and many others in the second partial against the Portuguese number two to ensure a duel with the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime, 11th seed, in the next phase of the test.
After the elimination, Pedro Sousa, 32, who guaranteed his unprecedented entry into the main board of an ATP Tour Masters 1,000 tournament, leaves the national representation to João Sousa, 103rd placed in the ATP ranking, who will play on Thursday with Australian Christopher O’Connell (122nd ATP).
