Percussionist Agostinho Sequeira wins Tromp Award in the Netherlands

The Portuguese musician, a former student of Metropolitana, received the prize, in cash amount of 15,000 euros and 3,000 euros for the Public Prize, and 2,000 euros for the Press Prize.

In second place, with 10,000 euros, was the Japanese Nozomi Hiwatashi and, in third, the Taiwanese Chinese Meng-Fu Hsieh, who received 7,000 euros.

The percussionist, studying for four years in Amsterdam, after finishing his training at the Professional School of Metropolitana (EPM) and having studied at the Conservatoire National Superieur Musique et Danse, in Lyon, France, under the Erasmus Program, was the first Portuguese to reach the final stage of the contest, according to Metropolitana.

In Lisbon, Agostinho Sequeira was a student of Marco Fernandes, artistic director of the Metropolitan Percussions.

In 2014, Agostinho Sequeira had won the RTP / Antena 2 Young Musicians Award and, in 2018, the Gondomar International Percussion Competition.

The musician has been a soloist with the Metropolitan and Gulbenkian Orchestras and in 2017 received a scholarship from the Jan Pustjens Foundation in the Netherlands.
