Next weekend, the Cultura em Expansão program presents the performance “MONITÓRIA” by Diogo Martins and Elisabete Sousa, and an unprecedented cine-concert around the work of German director Lotte Reiniger. The first show will take place this Friday, October 8, at 7:30 pm, at Mira Artes Performativas in Campanhã; the second takes place on Sunday, October 10, at 11 am, at the Grupo Musical de Miragaia Auditorium.
Created by the multidisciplinary artist duo Diogo Martins and Elisabete Sousa, “MONITÓRIA” emerges from a concern regarding the internalization of control and surveillance over physical and digital bodies, actions and intentions, seeking to unravel the gears that define them and expose techniques and strategies of disguise. For this, the authors explore the possibility of a complex subclinical encrypted body, capable of deceiving and decolonizing itself in order to avoid the recognition of possible predators, outlining paths of resistance to claim its anonymity. In this way, they try to give shape and dimension to the anthropological, social and behavioral content on the current concept of privacy through its momentary total abolition for the realization of sculptural and audiovisual collages and performative moments.
The cine-concert about the creative universe of Lotte Reiniger, arises from a challenge by Cultura em Expansão, Maria Helena Restivo, who joined the musicians Eduardo Serra, Jorge Castro and José Miguel Costa to compose and interpret a new score for some works by the German director. “Cinderella” (1922), “The Death-Feigning Chinaman” (1928), “The Magic Horse” (1954), “Thumbelina” (1954) and “The Frog Prince” (1961) were the films chosen for this journey between the fairy tale and the theater of shadows, aimed at all ages, which will be presented in Miragaia.
During the month of October, Cultura em Expansão also includes performances by Liz Kosack and Pop Dell’Arte; the second presentation of the project “Obras Portuenses da Década de 20”, by Ângela da Ponte, Igor C. Silva, José Alberto Gomes and Sara Carvalho; the play “I Could Write a Song” by Nuno Lucas, performed by Cláudio da Silva; the project OraculÁreas by Ana Rocha, with the partner structures of Cultura em Expansão and the percussionists João Pais Filipe and Pedro Melo Alves; and the second session of Roda de Histórias by Carlos Marques and Thomas Bakk.
