Perla Batalla will debut next December 4th at 10 pm at the Estoril Casino Black and Silver Room. The performer takes the stage to star in a tribute show to Leonard Cohen, entitled “House of Cohen”.
After 10 years of touring with Leonard Cohen, her mentor and friend encouraged her to start a solo career. Perla Batalla did so and edited “Bird on The Wire”, 2007, an album with the direct support of Cohen, who watched the recordings, advised on the themes, made arrangements and participated in the photoshoot for this project.
The death of the “melancholy poet” in 2016 led Perla Batalla to think of Cohen’s humorous and malicious side, his lesser-known songs, and the younger generations who deserved to “meet” Cohen.
In a combination of Cohen’s song poetry with his own musical style, inherited from Mexican father and Argentine mother, Perla Batalla created “House of Cohen,” a very personal tribute to the timeless art of the one who stated: “Onstage or off, in digital or analogue format, I love Perla Batalla ”
