Piaget’s Acupuncture Degree obtains maximum accreditation
The new Acupuncture degree, recently created at the Piaget Institute of Vila Nova de Gaia, has just won accreditation for the maximum period (6 years), awarded by A3ES – Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Agency.
The creation of the new course followed a strong commitment by the institution in the field of Non-Conventional Therapeutics, which had already led, equally, to the creation of a degree in Osteopathy, taught in the centres of Vila Nova de Gaia and Silves, and through which the first licensed osteopaths in Portugal will receive their diploma this year.
The Acupuncture degree, a pioneer in Portugal, is the only one currently existing in the Porto region and was structured according to the international standards of training and education in the area, namely the Guidelines on Basic Education and Safety in Acupuncture of the World Health Organization ( WHO) and the World Federation of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Societies.
In addition to the innovative nature of the training, the course coordinator, Maria João Santos, also highlights the fact that the degree allows to develop and integrate the knowledge and skills of clinical sciences in the principles and clinical practice in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine.
“With the support of qualified and specialized teaching staff, the future acupuncture will be equipped with increased professional skills in the field of health care, in specific intervention areas such as orthopaedics, neurology, psychiatry, cardiorespiratory and gastrointestinal diseases, gynaecology and urology, with a view to better professional integration in western clinical practice ”, adds the professor and the person in charge of the degree.
The recognition now achieved with the accreditation granted by A3ES is yet another strong incentive to reinforce the commitment to the quality of training of the Piaget Institute, also in the area of health, which has contributed to the training of thousands of professionals who are so essential to the country, especially at the moment that we now live.
