Pianist Quanlin Wang won the Santa Cecília International Competition
She has played on stages in China, Germany, Italy, USA, Australia, Romania, among others.
The 21-year-old pianist won the contest jury, which took place in an online and in-person format due to the covid-19’s containment measures, when presenting a 32-minute event with three pieces by Ludwing van Beethoven, having been accompanied by the Orchestra Portuguese Philharmonic.
Quanlin Wang competed with Antonii Baryshevskyi and Maria Narodytska, from Ukraine, having won the votes of a jury composed of national and international experts, such as Álvaro Teixeira Lopes, Albert Mamriev (Israel), Arminda Odete Barosa (Portugal), Giuliano Adorno (Italy), Milana Chernyavska (Germany), Olivier Moulin (France), Svetlana Eganian (Russia) and Yaron Kohlberg (United States).
Quanlin Wang started taking piano lessons at the age of four and, in 2010, started professional studies at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music Primary School. Since 2017 she has been at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien, in Hannover, Germany.
In addition to today’s victory, the young woman won first prize at the Kaufmann International Piano Competition in New York and second prize at the Solo Piano Competition at the Beijing International Music Festival.
In addition to a monetary prize of 10,000 euros, Quanlin Wang will be able to publish a CD for the production company KNS Classical, and participate in recitals and music festivals, not only in Portugal, but also in France and Spain.
Organized by the Silva Monteiro Music Course, the Santa Cecília International Competition annually gathers more than 100 musicians, between the ages of five and 32, from all over the world.
