Pianist Luis Magalhães presents his first solo album Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms
Edition on May 13, presentation concert on May 13, 9pm – Casa da Música
Pianist Luis Magalhães will release his first solo album, with works by four of the greatest composers of all time: Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms. The launch will be on May 13 at 9 pm with a show at Casa da Música (Room 2).
The pianist invites you on a journey through the universe of four of the most emblematic composers of the piano tradition. With the sensitivity and interpretative mastery that distinguish him, Magalhães builds a bridge between the expressive worlds of these geniuses, revealing the continuity and contrast between their languages, from the luminous clarity of Mozart to the romantic density of Brahms. In each interpretation, he demonstrates absolute respect for the spirit of the score, without failing to convey a personal vision that enriches the listening experience and renews the musical experience.
According to Luís Magalhães, “this recording is, in many ways, a reflection of my own journey—of the moments of clarity and doubt, of resilience and surrender that have shaped my life thus far. These works by Schubert, Beethoven, Mozart, and Brahms have been my companions for years, sometimes feeling like old friends, other times revealing themselves in ways I never expected. There were days when Schubert’s harmonies seemed to understand me better than I understood myself, when Beethoven demanded more than I thought I could give, and when Brahms reminded me that beauty often lies in contradiction. This album is not just about interpretation, but about a relationship—with music, with time, with myself.”

Described as possessing a “wonderfully full sound” (American Record Guide) and a “polished and refined technique” (Allmusic.com), Luís Magalhães has received critical acclaim both as a soloist and chamber musician. Born in Portugal, he has performed extensively throughout Europe, with recent engagements in Germany, Austria, his native Portugal, and Switzerland, among others. In addition to Europe, Luís has performed on stage in Brazil, South Africa, China, Japan, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and, on several occasions, in the United States. Luís Magalhães gives masterclasses around the world, including at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York and several universities in Europe, Asia and the United States. He has been a member of the jury of several competitions, including the prestigious Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition for Young Musicians.
Recorded with unparalleled sensitivity, this release is a production by Artway Editions, which once again reinforces its commitment to excellence in classical music from Portugal to the world.
The album will be available on the main digital platforms and in physical format.
