Almost two months after the release of “Tatuagens“, Picas’ latest single, “Última Vez“, is now available. This is the second chapter of the trilogy that tells the same love story.
Like the previous song, the artist once again experimented with the indie pop universe, expressed through electric guitars and powerful drums. The song begins in a melancholic tone and takes a turn halfway through, culminating in a harmonic explosion and a cry of emancipation in the last chorus.
“The theme Última Vez is a cry for liberation about leaving a relationship that is not good for us. It’s about putting ourselves first and taking care of ourselves before taking care of others. It’s a theme about breaking out of a toxic spiral, in which we are subjugated to the will of others. It’s about finding ourselves, even after we’ve lost ourselves.
In the first choruses the lyrics say “it’s my fault for wanting you, do what you have to do”, but in the last chorus the lyrics change to “it’s your fault for not knowing, you do everything just to trap me. It’s a song about becoming aware and choosing to put myself first.”
Picas
With lyrics and music by Picas, “Última Vez” features a bolder production, “perhaps the boldest to date”, according to the singer herself, which was handled by Jon. The music video for this second part of the trilogy was directed, once again, by Victor Hugooli, and is also now available on YouTube.
Both this single and the previous one, “Tatuagens“, will be part of Picas‘ debut album, to be released this year. Last month, the singer and songwriter also premiered her documentary Your Tattoos on the tip of my fingers reveal secrets to Me on her YouTube channel, directed by Afonso Batista.
