Piódão: Curiosities

Legend has it that one of the most famous assassins of the country, Diogo Lopes Pacheco, one of the executioners of Inês de Castro, hid in the royal fable that was this impossible love of Pedro and Inês. Considering how hidden it is, in a serrano coziness difficult to reach, it seems to have chosen well. Even because it was not the only one – the testimony of the Piódão being a hideout of other robbers are frequent here around.

The Village of Piódão is considered one of the most beautiful of the Country, classified as “Historical Village of Portugal”.

Located in the Center of the Country, belonging to the municipality of Arganil, on the slope of the beautiful Serra do Açor.

Its typical shale and slate houses, with blue painted wooden windows, gracefully descend the hillside, forming an amphitheater in this steep mountain range, being by many nicknamed “village crib.”

Piódão is a mountain village with a rural character and difficult accesses, an excellent example of how the human being has adapted over the centuries to the most inhospitable places.

The surrounding nature is almost in a pure state, observing by the region diverse species of fauna and flora typical of the place.
