Good/bad. Right/wrong. Man/woman. We have always been taught that our lives are limited to binaries. With “Cosmic Silence (the enby song)”, Pip Marinho (previously known as Marinho) invites us on a raw and vulnerable journey of their discovery of existence beyond the binary gender norm. From a deeply intimate place, Pip explores the fear that accompanies change.

When Pip Marinho embraced their non-binary identity, they found freedom from violent restrictions on their body and soul — but liberation often comes with resistance and difficulty. Elu wrote this song during a time of great fragility.

To honour the delicacy of this transition, Pip chose to make this the first single from the new album that will arrive in 2025 via Lay Down Recordings.

About Pip Marinho

Always transparent, always relatable. Under The Radar Magazine (USA) called them “the new best musical export from Lisbon.” Through fingerpicking on the guitar and emotional vocals, Pip Marinho (formerly known as Marinho) emphasizes the delicate nuances that exist in the struggle between holding onto pain and releasing it. The cathartic resolutions come in the form of alternative folk-rock songs they compiled in 2019 on their debut album ~ (read til) and other works they have released, including the second full-length album they plan to launch in 2025. Their deeply personal and confessional writing is surely cementing their growing reputation.

Pip has opened for artists such as Allegra Krieger, Anna St. Louis, Alice Phoebe Lou, Manel Cruz, and many more. Elu has extensively performed in Portugal and has made strides on international tours across Europe and the United Kingdom. Some press has compared Pip Marinho to Buck Meek (Big Thief), Black Belt Eagle Scout, and even rock icon Alanis Morissette.

In 2019, their debut album ended up on several Best Albums of the Year lists, and the single “Window Pain” was nominated for best song at the SPA awards. In 2021, Pip Marinho officially represented Portugal, nominated by RTP and Antena 3, at the Eurosonic festival — the largest music showcase festival in Europe. In 2024, elu released “Férias”, a new single included in the compilation “Amigues com Graça”. The compilation — whose artists include names like Luís Severo, Filipe Sambado, Primeira Dama and others — was released by Lay Down Recordings, the independent label that Pip Marinho founded with some of the artists from the Lisbon folk scene like April Marmara, Alek Rein, Monday, Francisco Fontes, and others.
