Pixies returned to Portugal, the 12th visit to Portuguese lands, Black Francis on vocals and guitar, Joey Santiago on guitar, David Lovering on drums and Paz Lenchantin on bass, were received by the public, which almost filled Campo Pequeno, with a huge ovation, perhaps already sensing what was going to happen, a fantastic night, where not only the best-known themes were reviewed, but also the most current ones, two extraordinary hours.
It was with ‘Cactus‘ that the Pixies opened the concert in Lisbon, followed by ‘Nimrod’s Song’ and then ‘Here Comes Your Man’, and Campo Pequeno was already dancing and singing with the American band.
Some classics like‘Blown Away’, ‘Ana’, ‘Mr. Grieves’ and ‘Motorway to Roswell’ with Francis plucking one of the strings of his acoustic guitar, such is the intensity.
The band then showed that they didn’t just come to play the classics, the best-known themes, and followed ‘There’s a Moon On’, ‘Who’s More Sorry Now?’, ‘Haunted House’, ‘The Lord Has Come Back Today’ and ‘Get Simulated’, themes from his latest album, ‘Doggerel’ from 2022
They then ended in a crescendo, with the audience vibrating with each song,‘Gouge Away’, ‘Monkey Gone to Heaven’, ‘Caribou’, ‘Debaser’, ‘Wave of Mutilation’, ‘Hey’, ‘Bone Machine’ and to end big ‘Where Is My Mind?’
The concert closed with ‘Winterlong’, the song by the great Neil Young that North Americans usually use to end their concerts, as happened in Paredes de Coura, where they played seven months ago.
After two hours of the concert, Black Francis and their companions bowed goodbye, and continue to show enormous vitality, looking forward and moving forward, with new and excellent songs.
An excellent concert, with the signature everything is new.
The first part was in charge of the British indie quartet Wunderhorse of the British Jacob Slater, who was in charge of the warm-up of Campo Pequeno for the Pixies.
