Plateia d’Emoções opens the book of a more devilish and musical “Jungle”
Rudyard Kipling’s classic work hits the stage in a version adapted to Portuguese reality and with a different scenic approach. The premiere takes place, once again, at the Coliseu do Porto, on March 4th.
It was one of the productions recommended by the National Theater Network of Spain and, by the Portuguese Plateia d’Emoções, the adaptation of the classic work by the British Rudyard Kipling is already in the rehearsal phase, with its premiere scheduled for the Coliseu Porto Ageas, on March 4th (Sunday), at 5 pm.
In the new stage approach to The Jungle Book, Mowgli will appear more mischievous, Baloo more clumsy and Bagheera will display a tailor-made tenderness, to counterbalance the strong personality for which he is known. The usual criminals will appear with a touch of comedy. All of this is surrounded by costumes and sets full of volume and colour, which stray from traditional approaches and include transformations, projections, puppets and illusions accompanied by live songs. Which, guarantees Cátia Tavares, executive producer of Plateia d’Emoções, “We won’t be able to stop humming when leaving the concert hall”.
The new production, based on the original idea by Mario Sanchis and music by Pau Cháfer, is part of the program that the Vila Nova de Gaia company specializing in musical theatre has drawn up with Easter in mind.
After its debut in the largest amphitheatre in the Invicta City, it will pass, in March, through Póvoa de Varzim (from the 12th to the 15th), Amarante (20th and 21st), Mealhada (from the 27th to the 29th), and then, in April, it will return to Porto (from the 1st to the 3rd) and Vila Nova de Gaia (from the 8th to the 12th), in sessions aimed at the school community and others for the general public (see full agenda attached).
These will be months in which Plateia d’Emoções will work on another production, which premiered in the last Christmas campaign. We are referring to “Alice in Wonderland Musical”, a play for which the “Best Family Musical” artistic collective from Gaia holds the exclusive rights for Portugal, after having been awarded in Spain at the Musical Theatre Awards, and “Best Musical” at the Broadwayworld Spain Awards.
The play, which was nominated a few days ago for the Pumpkin Awards, in the category of Best Show for Children, toured several northern cities and will be back again in Alfena (from March 26 to 30), Tábua (from April 2 to 4) and the village of Mozelos in Feira (from April 29 to 30).
May, in turn, will see the return of one of the most important plays produced by Plateia d’Emoções, “Anne Frank – The Musical”, which inspired the Vila Nova de Gaia company in an original production, with 15 actors on stage and the work of 30 professionals from different technical areas. Hélder Reis, the well-known television professional, is the author of the original text and lyrics for the play, with music and orchestration by André Ramos, (London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, London Arts Orchestra and Hong Kong Sinfonietta).
“Anne Frank – The Musical” will pass through Alfena, Amarante, Mealhada, Porto and Bragança (see full schedule below).
After being founded in 2011, Plateia d’Emoções specialized in musical theatre four years later. The company develops a hundred and fifty shows per year (for a handful of theatrical productions), on average, and often has up to three plays running simultaneously, in different stops, which easily reach twenty cities. Thanks to the work of a team of more than 30 professionals, including actors, singers and dancers, creatives and technicians from various performing areas.
The artistic collective essentially focuses on developing the audience of the future, its greatest goal. Their audiences are therefore made up of around 85% of school-age audiences.
Plateia seeks to cultivate the habit of going to the theater and that is why it also develops its art in facilities with all the technical conditions required for the quality that audiences deserve.
