Polytechnic of Setúbal opens “tailor-made” postgraduate courses in Speech Therapy

Advanced Practices for Children, Adults and the Elderly – Applications until February 7

The Escola Superior de Saúde do Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal (ESS/IPS) will offer, as of March, two new innovative postgraduate courses in the field of Speech Therapy, in advanced practices in childhood and adulthood, including the elderly population.

The two new courses, with applications, open until the 7th of February, are distinguished by their adaptable study plan, which allows the student to build an area of ​​expertise tailored to their needs, by their flexibility (b-learning modality and after-work hours), which allows accommodating different student profiles, and by the qualified, specialized teaching staff of recognized national and international merit.

With 30 places available in each one, both courses last for one semester (equivalent to 30 ECTS), and are aimed at graduates in Speech Therapy (or legal equivalent) and holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that certifies capacity to carry out this cycle of studies.

Admitted students are asked to enrol in the only mandatory curricular unit (UC) of the course – Discussion of Cases and Clinical Practices – and to select four out of seven optional UCs, which deal with different areas of specialization in Speech Therapy. These CUs are eligible for accreditation in the Master’s Degree in Speech Therapy (in the process of accreditation at the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education – A3ES) or for microcredit, a training typology framed in the European Union report “A European Approach to Micro-Credentials – Output of the Micro-Credentials Higher Education Consultation Group”.

These new IPS advanced training offer is part of the SONDA2026 – Smart Open Networks for Development Acceleration project, approved under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), and aim to contribute to improving the national deficit in terms of lifelong training. , specifically in the scientific field of health.

Its “tailor-made” study plan responds precisely to the postgraduate training needs of speech therapists, identified by listening to final year students, cooperating and non-cooperating speech therapists, and employing institutions.
