The Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS) presented this week, in a public session, its Gender Equality Commission (CIG/IPS), an advisory body that aims to ensure the observance and promotion of gender equality and equity in the respective community academic.
Chaired by António Manuel Marques, from the Escola Superior de Saúde (ESS/IPS), the body comprises a total of 11 members, representing teaching and non-teaching staff, students, and the administrations of the IPS and Social Action Services (SAS/ IPS).
Its mission is “to contribute to the protection and guarantee of the dignity and integrity of the human person in work activities, teaching, scientific research, in particular with regard to non-discrimination based on sex and gender identity and the fight against the various forms of oppression, exploitation, and gender-based violence”.
It is responsible, among other attributions and powers, for issuing opinions and drawing up recommendations and other documents, ensuring that legislation on gender equality is complied with, and forwarding complaints of gender discrimination to the competent bodies.
The new advisory body of the IPS takes on the challenges, among others, of having its own initiatives and supporting those of the Presidency and Organic Units of the IPS, in order to comply with the institution’s Gender Equality Plan, so that it is an example of good practices in the field of gender equality.
