Port Wine Day, which takes place on 07, 08 and 10 September, includes the awarding of the Wine Tourism, Viticulture, Oenology and Revelation awards, and the 2017 vintage year declaration.

Promoted by the Douro and Porto Wine Institute (IVDP), based in Peso da Régua, Vila Real district, Port Wine Day was established in 2014 and pays tribute to the wine produced in Douro, the oldest and most demarcated region. of the world.

It was on September 10, 1756, that the Douro Demarcated Region was created, through the creation of the General Company of the Alto Douro Vineyard Agriculture, by Marques de Pombal.

The 6th edition, which will take place on September 7th, 08th, and 10th, includes wine tasting, wine dinners, vintage year declaration (2017), sunset parties and award ceremonies, actions that will extend along the Douro Valley.

As reported today by the IVDP in a statement, one of the novelties of the 2019 edition is the awarding of prizes, related to the themes: Wine Tourism, Viticulture, Oenology, and Revelation, to projects that stood out in the Douro Demarcated Region.

“Such distinctions also highlight the vitality of a region, the efforts of the Douro communities and the involvement of all in the preservation of a single territory,” the public institute said in a statement.

The awards will take place during the “Douro Sustentável” dinner, to be held at the Lamego Museum, on September 10th.

“An opportunity to especially toast to people,” said IVDP President Gilberto Churches.

For the responsible, “the Douro is fundamentally the result of the selflessness, dedication, relevance, commitment, and competence of those who chose to love without premise that land.”

“The goal of Port Wine Day is to attract lovers, but in parallel all others who still ignore their passionate passion for wine. It will only fit us to guide them authentically in this ecosystem of affections, emotions, palates, perfumes and On this assumption, we have prepared a series of activities whose impact we would like to extend along the Douro Valley and its tributaries, from Barqueiros to Barca D’Alva, “said Gilberto Churches.

The celebrations kick off at the Palácio da Bolsa in Porto, with the “Porto Vintage 2017 Grand Tasting”, followed by one of the “high moments” of Port Wine Day 2019, namely the Vintage Year Declaration by the Port Wine Confraria.
