Port Wine Day is celebrated this Thursday
The celebrations of the 7th edition of Port Wine Day, to celebrate the 264 years of the Douro Demarcated Region, take place this Thursday, September 10th, announced today the Institute of Douro and Port Wines, I.P. (IVDP).
The initiative this year includes a dinner called “Douro Mais Sustentável”, which will include the awarding of distinctions in the categories of wine tourism, viticulture, oenology and revelation that distinguish projects that have managed to stand out in the preservation and promotion of the vitality and sustainability of the Douro territory.
It is recalled that on September 10, 1756, the Alto Douro Wine General Agriculture Company was created and with it the first demarcated and regulated region in the world was born: the Alto Douro Wine Region, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, in 2011.
“With Port Wine day, we pay tribute to the generations of workers who, with their heroic effort, transformed the stone into land, building a magnificent landscape, considered one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world.
We also pay tribute to those who work in the vineyard, companies and institutions every day, giving Port and Douro wines and the Douro Wine Region an international dimension of excellence. ”, Declares Gilberto Igrejas, President of the IVDP.
