Deco Protest Automobile Portal nominated for international award

The Mile 21 platform is nominated for the awards for the best sites with a .eu extension in the Better World category for its support to consumers in matters of fuel savings and reliable information on consumption and emissions. Voting runs until the 5th of August.

The Mile 21 portal, whose name derives from the motto “More Information, Less Emissions”, aims to provide real consumption data and help in decision making when buying a car. On this platform, consumers can record vehicle consumption, access average values of fuel used, as well as the emissions of a large number of new and used cars.

Alexandre Marvão, Team Leader of the Mobility area at DECO PROTESTE, states that “this is a reliable information tool, based on the real experience of consumers, which increases knowledge about each vehicle”. Alexandre Marvão explains that the Mile 21 platform is able to “monitor the fuel consumption of cars, simply registering the make, model and characteristics of the car and all the refueling carried out, comparing all these data with those provided by the manufacturers”.

Through Mile 21, users were able, with simple measures, to reduce consumption by 2 to 9 percent. From community data, DECO PROTESTE was able to compare 66 car versions with sufficient results.

The finding is not surprising, but it continues to shock: the information provided by the manufacturers is far from realistic. Consumptions advertised by brands are, on average, 21% lower than the number measured by car owners in real life.
