The 2023 edition of Porto Blues Fest returns on the 21st and 22nd of July, once again, to the gardens of the Palácio de Cristal and at Concha Acústica.
At a time when more than 12 months had passed since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the promoters of the festival, Trovas Soltas and In Rock We Trust, decided to do something special: pay homage on stage to one of Ukraine’s musical icons, the musician from blues Alexander Dolgov.
Alexander Dolgov is the founder of the blues movement in Ukraine, he lived in Kharkiv where he had his home and studio, which were completely destroyed by Russian bombing.
As Adalberto Ribeiro from the promoter Trovas Soltas tells us, “With this concert, Porto Blues Fest expresses its solidarity with the Ukrainian people and the affected populations, namely the artists who, in this way, are prevented from carrying out their mission in society. Art and culture are, in essence, vehicles for bringing people closer together, stimulating dialogue and multiculturalism, rooting humanist values, and promoting peace”.
We can also highlight in this year’s lineup of Porto Blues Fest, the continuous commitment to Portuguese music, this year represented by Montalvor and Little Hands Blues Band, as well as in the music that is made in Europe, as in the case of Greyhound’s Washboard Band (Germany) and the legendary The Animals (UK). As it should be, Porto Blues Fest will have a representative from the cradle of this musical style, Tia Carroll (United States of America).
But at Porto Blues Fest we don’t just live music…
… Also as in past editions, Porto Blues Fest is committed to Training (through A Academia de Guitarra do Porto), Inclusion, and Sustainability.
In terms of Training, through workshops (Porto Blues Fest offers the unique opportunity to the best student of the Porto Guitar Academy to share the stage with one of the bands that make up the festival’s lineup).
In terms of Inclusion (reserved seats in the audience, reserved parking space, with regulatory measures and close to access to the Festival and priority attention in case of emergency, among other initiatives).
In terms of Sustainability (each person attending the festival will also contribute to the success of the mission to reforest one hectare of forest, by purchasing your ticket you will be contributing €1, which will be donated to our partner.
For this new edition, the promoters are maintaining one of the success stories of the Porto Blues Fest: As Estações dos Blues (concerts held at the Trindade metro station). In addition to the usual food court and exhibition area (such as the Guitar Cigar Box).
