Porto Book Fair starts today and pays homage to Júlio Dinis
With 124 pavilions, the Porto Book Fair runs until 12 September, with its opening today with the presence of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, as in previous years and with the Lisbon counterpart.
Over the next few days, Mário Cláudio will give a “lesson” on “Saint Mateus and the Angel” by Caravaggio, José Miranda Justo will talk about the artist Joseph Beuys and “the tradition of mythical German thinking”, while Paula Guerra will address “The perpetuity of existence and the infinite melancholy in Kurt Cobain”.
Still on the program, João Barrento will discuss Novalis and Sousa Dias will address “The two Empedocles: The historic and the intempestive”.
The Júlio Dinis herbarium, owned by the Rodrigues de Freitas School, will be presented in an exhibition context marking the reopening of the City Museum — Extension of Romanticism, former Romantic Museum, where it is proposed to carry out a diagnosis of the impact of romanticism in Porto until to the present.
The figure of romanticism in the city is addressed in the program designed by guest curator Helena Carvalhão Buescu.
The fair’s program includes multiple conversations, “duets” between poets, concerts, cinema, animation, and various activities for children.
To access the Porto Book Fair, it is necessary to wear a mask, and it is recommended to keep a safe distance. The fair has a maximum limit of one thousand people simultaneously in the enclosure.
