Porto Design Biennale, promoted by the municipalities of Porto and Matosinhos and organized by the research center of the Superior School of Art and Design (ESAD), takes place in July 2021, under the theme “Alter-Realidades: Designing the present”.
Porto Design Biennale (PDB), which will take place on June 4 and July 25, 2021 in 2021, intends to stimulate the debate around the capacity of design to outline new solutions to collective problems, at a time when the world faces new challenges and uncertainties regarding the use, planning and sustainability of urban centers, the mobility of citizens and how the public space can remain a catalyst for experiences.
In addition to the usual formats, such as exhibitions, conferences, workshops and publications, Alastair Fuad-Luke’s curatorship will respond to the challenges of programming in the current context and spread across the territory of both cities.
According to the organization, the first opening of applications for proposals for Porto Design Biennale, which runs until January 17, 2021, “will accept applications capable of enriching the reflection around the general theme of the PDB”.
The second ‘open call’ is for Graphic Design and is open to the presentation of portfolios of designers, studios or design agencies interested in developing the identity and visual concept of PDB 2021. Applications are also open since Tuesday and end the 10th of December.
The organization also mentions that, in 2019, the 1st edition of the PDB mobilized around 50 thousand people over 81 days, in a program that integrated about 300 projects and 60 events such as exhibitions, workshops, performances, installations and conversations, presented in 37 spaces in the cities of Porto and Matosinhos, involving 20 curators and 310 participants from 18 nationalities.
