Porto appears in second place in the ranking of the best cities in Europe in 2021, in a poll carried out by the readers of the renowned Condé Nast Traveler magazine. It is the only Portuguese city to appear in the top 10.
The news was published on the October 5th holiday and is now starting to gain weight. The city of Porto, according to the publication itself, “dethrones the Portuguese capital in this year’s list”, since Lisbon drops to 15th position on the list.
The score attributed to Porto by the voters reaches an impressive 92.78, behind the winner Istanbul (Turkey), who managed 93.67 points, in other words, not an absolute point away from the Portuguese city.
The third position in the ranking belongs to San Sebastian (Spain), with 91.52 points.
Overall, the evaluation looked at criteria such as outstanding gastronomy, hotel offerings with high standards of service and quality, local hospitality, in addition to the historical tradition of each city.
For the 34th annual edition of Condé Nast Traveler’s Reader’s Choice Awards (CNT), more than 800,000 readers from around the world responded to the questionnaire, which asked for responses to various parameters on multiple scales.
In fact, in the year that Porto is runner-up among European cities, Portugal also gets the award for best destination in the world.
In March of this year, the city of Porto had already been elected by the CNT as one of the best destinations for individual travelers, in addition to having obtained, in 2020, the distinction of one of the friendliest cities on the European continent.
