The first edition of the International Circus Festival of Porto, which runs from September 13 to 16, will be distributed in the squares and gardens of the city, with more than 40 free shows from 12 national and international companies.
The ‘Speakeasy’ show, which brings together six ‘performers’ from the French company The Rat Pack, and mixes cinema, theater and various acrobatics, will start the festival at the Porto Coliseum on September 13 at 9:30 p.m., repeating on the 14th, at the same time.
The Coliseu do Porto will also be the stage for the presentation of ‘Six Pieds sur Terre’ (‘Six Feet on the Earth’), of the French company Lapsus, born in 2010, and that acts for the first time in Portugal, on September 15 , at 9:30 p.m., and on the 16th, at 5:30 p.m., thus closing the spectacles in the only closed space of the event.
The Jardim de São Lázaro is one of the outdoor spaces in the city that will serve as a stage for performances such as Claire Ducreux’s “Le Sourire du Naufragé” (“The Smile of the Shipwrecked”) on 14 and 15 September, at 5:00 p.m., and on the 16th at 3:00 p.m., but also as the ‘3D’ of the French company HMG, which will also perform on September 14 and 15 at 7:00 p.m., repeating on November 16 at 5:00 p.m.
The Poveiros Square is the third stage of the new circus, with demonstrations such as Toron Blues’ ‘Ruge’ and ‘La Fin Demain’ by the German company Zirkus Morsa, which won the OFF section of the French Sorties festival in Brain , in Normandy.
The ‘Viva Victor’ solo by the Belgian company KRaK and the ‘Banda Rumtatá’ show by the Portuguese company Marimbondo also take place on 14, 15 and 16 September in Praça dos Poveiros.
Three creations will be held in Praça da Batalha: ‘Mayara’ by Chiara Marchese, the music by Poc’s ‘Bobby & Moi’ and ‘Bruit de couloir’ by Clément Dazin, which mixes juggling with contemporary dance.
The Largo de Santo Ildefonso will host the 60-minute ‘Sol Bemol’ show, a creation of the Belgian company D’Irque & Fien, which was awarded in Valladolid, Spain, and which takes place on September 13 at 10:30 p.m. the same program on days 14 and 15 at 10:00 p.m.
In addition to more than 40 shows, the festival will hold an international conference, scheduled for September 15 at 11:00 am, at the Coliseu do Porto, which aims to reflect on the future of these artistic approaches.
The first edition of the International Circus Festival of Porto also features the presentation of the Circo Social ‘Calçada’ show, an educational service project that taught, under the direction of Elsa Caillat and João Paulo dos Santos, circus arts to young people from the parish of Bonfim.
The group will perform at the Foyer of the Coliseum in Porto, on September 13, 14 and 15, at 5:30 p.m., and on the 16th, at 4:30 p.m.
