Portugal hosts the Semifinal of the 52nd edition of the International Emmy®️ Awards

  • The Portuguese capital hosts the semifinal voting for the International Emmy®️ Awards 2024 this Friday, September 13th.
  • Voting session at the Lisbon City Council and commemorative dinner, starting at 7:30 PM, at the Carris Museum, mark another edition of the event in Lisbon.

The voting for the Non-Scripted Entertainment category of the International Emmy®️ Awards takes place this Friday, September 13, in the Archive Room of the City Hall in Lisbon.

These awards, recognized as the most important in television worldwide, annually honour the best programs produced and broadcast outside the United States. This is the tenth time that Portugal has hosted a voting semifinal, featuring representatives from the main Portuguese television channels and prominent figures from the industry. The jury panel will consist of a significant group of Portuguese professionals from the national television landscape.

In a closed-door meeting, representatives from the three Portuguese generalist television channels – RTP, SIC, and TVI – are participating in the viewing and voting session for the Non-Scripted Entertainment category. This category distinguishes the best-unscripted entertainment programs, including reality shows, game shows, and other formats broadcast worldwide.

The voting for the 52nd edition of the International Emmy®️ Awards precedes the Gala dinner taking place at the Carris Museum, starting at 7:30 PM, with the presence of prominent figures in the arts in Portugal. Catarina Furtado and Gilmário Vemba (RTP), Cláudia Vieira and Ricardo Pereira (SIC), and Maria Cerqueira Gomes and Pedro Teixeira (TVI) will be the hosts of the event.

The winner of the Non-Scripted Entertainment category, along with the winners of the other competing categories, will be announced at the official ceremony of the International Emmy®️ Awards on November 25, 2024, at the New York Hilton Midtown in New York City.

With the sponsorship of the Universo brand from the SONAE Group and Bankinter, this event reinforces support for the internationalization of national television production. Since 2016, and at the initiative of André Sampaio, one of the 5 Ambassadors of the International Academy of Television, Portugal has been the host of the semifinals of the International Emmy®️ Awards.

This year marks the 10th voting session in the country, reinforcing the international projection of national productions.

Portugal’s presence at the International Emmy®️ Awards has been marked by significant distinctions. In previous editions, the country has been awarded on three occasions: with the soap operas ‘Meu Amor’ (TVI) in 2010, ‘Laços de Sangue’ (co-production SIC/TV Globo) in 2011, and ‘Ouro Verde’ (TVI) in 2018. It is worth mentioning that Portuguese productions have already been distinguished with 12 nominations for the Awards.

Once again, Portugal plays a central role in this competition, aiming to continue highlighting the talent and creativity of national television productions.
