Portugal beats Azerbaijan with an own goal (1-0)
An own goal, on 36 minutes, was worth this Wednesday the victory of Portugal over Azerbaijan, in a match referring to the qualification phase for the World Cup 2022.
In Turin (Italy), due to the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic, Portugal completely dominated the match, but failed to translate goals into the ascendant in the face of the modest opponent, who only managed to reach the last third of the field in the second half.
The game was also marked by the debut of Nuno Mendes and João Palhinha by the main national team, bringing to 49 the number of players launched since Fernando Santos took over as coach in September 2014.
Portugal will play again next Saturday, against Serbia, in Belgrade.
