Portugal beat Bahrain in the second round of Group B (26-25)
Portugal beat Bahrain (26-25) in the second round of Group B of the Olympic Games handball tournament. It was the first-ever victory of this sport in an Olympics.
Losing at half-time (15-14), Portugal ended up recovering in the second half, thanks to a great display by goalkeeper Gustavo Capdville. It was at the start of the last minute that the heroes of the sea took the lead (26-25) and 12 seconds from the end they were blessed with a seven-metre free-kick from the Asians hitting the crossbar.
With this result, Portugal climbed to fourth place in Group B with two points, two behind leaders Denmark, and need only one more victory to seal their passage to the next stage. The Quinas team has another match scheduled with Sweden, at dawn on Wednesday (3 hours).
