Portugal beats Serbia in Belgrade

Goals from William (42′), Guedes (58′), Ronaldo (80′) and Bernardo Silva (86′) stamped a sweaty triumph for the corner team in Belgrade.

The first half started very evenly with Portugal exerting very early pressure on the Serbian players. The objective was clear: not to give the opponent room to play.

A successful mission, but with regard to the attack, the imbalances, the space passes, the demarcations were not coming out, and much to blame for the organization with very close lines on the part of Serbia.

However, the goal came to Portugal, not for the Portuguese inspiration, but for the Serbian confusion. A clash between the goalkeeper and a defender left William with the goal on his feet and the midfielder just had to pull over. But if the first half was lukewarm, the second half burned with five goals.

The first one by Gonçalo Guedes at 58 minutes. Great work from Valencia winger after a very good offensive drawing of the Portuguese attack. 10 minutes later, Milenkovic reduced to Serbia and relaunched the game, but Ronaldo at 80 ‘put Portugal more rested. Bernardo Silva’s opening and exemplary CR7 finish, poking the ball over Dmitrovic.

The game was still and responsive, and as such Serbia again made its own. With five minutes left, Mitrovic shot Rui Patrício and left the home fans in a frenzy. A delirium that lasted only a minute, it should be said. Bernardo Silva sealed the final score at 86 ‘after assisted by Raphäel Guerreiro.

Portugal’s first win in Euro’2020 qualifying Group B after two draws in the first two games. The corner team are now runners-up with 5 points, 8 fewer than Ukraine, who have two more.
