Portugal closes 2018 in sixth place in FIFA ranking
Portugal finishes the year in the sixth place in the FIFA rankings in a list in which Belgium is the leader, a point ahead of world champion France, the governing body of world football announced today.
During the year the Portuguese national team was knocked out by Uruguay in the round of 16 but won their League of Nations Group A by qualifying for the final four, which they will host in 2019.
The ranking, compared to November, remains unchanged to 81st place, with Belgium, France, Brazil, Croatia, England, Portugal, Uruguay, Switzerland, Spain and Denmark occupying the top ten, respectively.
Iran, by Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, is the best team in the Asian zone, in 29th place, Senegal in Africa, in 23rd, and Mexico leads the CONCACAF zone (North America, Central, and Caribbean), in 17th place.
South Korea, coached by Paulo Bento, is 2018 in 53rd place, Burkina Faso by Paulo Duarte in 61st place, Cape Verde by Rui Águas in 72nd, and Mozambique by Abel Xavier, at 117.
