The Portuguese women’s U-17 national team will face Spain, European and world champion Denmark and host Bulgaria in Group A of the 2019 UEFA European Championship, today held the draw in the Bulgarian city of Albena.
Selector José Paisana considered Spain “clearly the favourite” in the group, who have qualified the top two in the semi-finals, and highlighted Portugal’s willingness to become a competitive team.
“We are going to respect all of them, be competitive and give national players the opportunity to grow in this top-of-the-line environment,” said Jose Paisana, in statements made on the official website of the Portuguese Football Federation FPF).
Portugal will start their participation in the tournament, which runs from May 05 to 17, against Bulgaria (on the first day), followed by the meetings with Denmark (May 8) and Spain (May 11).
Group B of the 2019 UEFA European Championship comprises the national teams of Austria, Germany, England and the Netherlands.
Portugal will add up to their second appearance in the final stages of the U17 women’s European Championships, after participating in the 2013 edition in England, where they finished in the last position of group A with a point.
