The Portuguese team of K4 500 meters, formed by Emanuel Silva, João Ribeiro, Messias Baptista, and David Varela, was ranked eighth in the final of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, winning another diploma for the Portugal Mission.

The Portuguese finished the race in 1,25.324 minutes, 3.105 seconds behind Germany, which won the gold medal, ahead of Spain (silver) and Slovakia (bronze).

Portugal, it should be remembered, had already won a bronze medal in the K1 1,000 meters race, by Fernando Pimenta, while Teresa Portela also had the right to a diploma, after being ranked seventh in K1 500 meters.
