Portugal is in the quarterfinals of the Padel World Championship
The Portuguese women’s and men’s teams have passed the group stage of the Padel World Championship and have qualified for the quarterfinals of the XIV edition of the competition that is taking place in Asunción, Paraguay.
In the women’s competition, the Portuguese team added three wins and went top of Group C. After a 3-0 home win against Paraguay, they beat Finland (3-0) and Brazil (2-1), to move ahead in the group and meet France in the quarterfinals. Already in the men’s event, and integrated into Group A, Portugal only lost against the powerful and favourite Argentina, current world champion and who won the three singles. Thanks to first triumphs against Italy (3-0) and then Mexico (3-0), Portuguese players have secured the unprecedented passage to the quarterfinals at La Quinta Sports, where they will now face Brazil. In the Open Pairs, doubles competition, Ana Catarina Nogueira / Filipa Mendonça and Sofia Araújo / Helena Medeiros are also cleared for the quarterfinals. European runners-up Ana Catarina Nogueira and Filipa Mendonça will now join forces with Alejandra Salazar and Marta Marrero, while Araújo and Medeiros will face another Spanish duo, Elisabeth Armas and Patricia Zielinsky. In Paraguay to represent the national teams are Ana Catarina Nogueira, Filipa Mendonça, Margarida Fernandes, Marina Afonso, Sofia Araújo, Helena Medeiros, Patrícia Ribeiro, Inês Conde, Vasco Pascoal, Miguel Oliveira, João Bastos, Diogo Schaefer, Francisco Neves, Bernardo Bastos , Ricardo Martins and Sebastião Mendonça.
