Lisbon will receive in 2020 Radiodays Europe, an annual conference event where more than 1,600 professionals from public and private radio stations in more than 60 countries are expected, RTP announced today.
The conference will take place between March 29 and 31 at the Lisbon Congress Center in Junqueira.
The decision was unveiled today at the end of this year’s edition, which was held in Lausanne, Switzerland, and featured a message from the President of the Republic of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
“Portugal and radio have in common the platforms of cultures, civilizations, continents and oceans,” said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in this message released during the event.
Also in a recorded speech, the mayor of Lisbon, Fernando Medina, considered that “just as radio has no limits, Lisbon is a city open to the world, tolerant and without walls.”
Portugal presented its candidacy for the conference in a joint action between the largest radio groups – RTP, Media Capital Radios and the Renascença group.
“This is a special moment to receive the Radiodays, a moment of strengthening the preference and credibility of the radio environment reflected in the last wave of audiences,” noted RTP.
Meanwhile, Media Capital Radios stressed that the city of Lisbon “has much to offer participants and these much to offer the city” and its professionals.
The Renaissance group said that the event “will be a unique opportunity to share passion and knowledge about the present and future of this milieu.”
During the three days the present, the evolution and the future of the radio will be debated.
On the table will also be the digital challenges, the new players and platforms.
“The conferences will focus on success stories, new technology breakthroughs, new techniques and trends in the field of radio production, journalism, talent discovery and training, or the latest business models,” reads the document.
