Portugal trains for the last time before recieving Luxembourg

The Portuguese football team is holding the last training session in the City of Football, in Oeiras, before Friday’s clash with Luxembourg’s Euro2020 qualifying Group B.

Portugal abdicated the usual practice of adaptation to the pitch of the stage of the meeting, in this case at the José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon, and preferred to make the decisive ‘home’ ready.

On the day in Fernando Santos turns 65, the national team has a session scheduled for 11:00, with the first 15 minutes to be open to the media.

On Wednesday, William Carvalho already worked integrated in the group, apparently without any physical limitation, while Mario Rui still trained separately.

After the session at 12:45, the national coach and a player still to be designated will make a press conference to preview the duel with Luxembourg, also in the City of Football.

The European champions welcome Luxembourg in a match scheduled to start at 19:45 and travel to Kiev on Monday to face Group B leaders Ukraine.

In case of victory in both games, and if Serbia does not win in Lithuania, also on the 14th, Portugal will soon secure a place in the finals of the next European and will continue to fight for the group’s first place with the Ukrainians.

Ukraine leads the group with 13 points, followed by Portugal, which has eight but one game less. Serbia is third with seven, ahead of Luxembourg, which has four, and Lithuania, with one.

The Portugal-Luxembourg will have arbitration of Polish Daniel Stefanski.
