Portugal tri-champion as best destination in Europe
The gala that took place on Madeira Island, of the European World Travel Awards, consecrated Portugal.
On Madeira Island, Turismo de Portugal was elected Europe’s Leading Tourist Board in 2019. This distinction is attributed by industry professionals who vote for the World Travel Awards for the sixth consecutive year.
According to the communiqué, the president of Turismo de Portugal, Luís Araújo, said: “The international awards we have been winning over the past few years prove that the 2027 Tourism Strategy, the strategic benchmark for the sector, is succeeding in positioning Portugal as a destination which can (and should) be visited throughout the year and which offers different tourist experiences throughout Portugal.
For the third time consecutive, Portugal was the great winner of the gala, winning the prize of Best European Destination. But Lisbon was once again recognized as Europe’s Best City Break Destination and still the Best European Cruise Port.
Already the Algarve was distinguished as Best European Beach Destination and, the island of Madeira, as Best Island Destination.
Portugal in total received 39 prizes – three more than in the 2018 edition.
The World Travel Awards exist since 1993, to distinguish the work developed in the tourist industry, and it intends to stimulate the competitiveness and the quality of the tourism. Winners are chosen by industry professionals.
