Portugal beats France and qualifies for the Tokyo Olympics

Portugal secured, in Montpellier, qualification for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, next summer.

This Sunday, the National Team beat France by the minimum margin (29-28), enough to guarantee a place in the competition in Japan. In the pre-Olympic tournament, Portugal needed to beat the Gauls to ‘steal’ the place from Croatia, that this Sunday had already beaten Tunisia and, therefore, added two victories in this group.

Even after a bad start, in which Portugal ended up losing 3-9, a notable recovery in the second half had the ‘icing on the cake’ in the last minute, when Portugal finally came to victory.

This will be the first time that Portugal has put on a flag modality at the Olympic Games: in 1992, in Barcelona, the roller hockey team was present but in an exhibition and unofficial version. Japan, Denmark, Bahrain, Spain, Egypt, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Brazil will be the other teams present in Tokyo.
