Portugal beats Cameroon and will be present at the Women’s World Cup

The Portuguese team made history, beating Cameroon, 2-1, and will participate in the World Cup to be held in New Zealand and Australia next summer.

The Portuguese players who beat the Cameroon team this morning in Hamilton, New Zealand, were great. At the end of the 90+10 minutes, an explosion of joy from our players marked the beginning of a dream.

This intercontinental playoff meeting was decisive for the Portuguese aspirations, against a selection from Cameroon, difficult and very strong physically, but Francisco Neto’s team managed to win by 2-1.

The first goal of the match was scored by Portugal in the 22nd minute, after a free kick, Kika Nazareth hit the post and, in the reload, Diana Gomes opened the scoring.

In the second half, the African team ended up scoring in the 89th minute, through Nchout, who received the ball at the entrance of the Portuguese area, turned, and shot low, tying the game to a ball, and when they were already thinking about extra time, the Portuguese team benefited from a penalty already in stoppage time, Carole Costa didn’t waste it and put Portugal in the Women’s Football World Cup.

Portugal will participate in the World Cup as part of Group E, where they will be joined by the Netherlands on the 23rd of July, Vietnam, on the 27th of July, and then will play with the defending champions the United States on the 1st of August.

The 2023 Women’s World Cup Finals will take place in Australia and New Zealand from 20 July to 20 August.
