The Portuguese U-17 team beat Poland 2-1 today and reached their second win in two games in the elite qualifying round of the category.
With the winner of each of the eight groups securing a place in the finals of the European Championship, which will take place between 03 and 19 May in the Republic of Ireland, Portugal has added six points, against three of Russia, who still play today against Scotland, host of Group 6.
The Portuguese, trained by Emílio Peixe, secured the victory today, again at Saint Mirren Park in Paisley with goals from Pedro Brazão at 10 minutes, and Gerson at 29, with Poland reduced by Zalewski at 79, having beaten the Scots in the first day (2-0).
“Overall, we were very good, it was a very demanding game, and now we are waiting for the results to see our position, we are already thinking about the next game and we are looking forward to another victory,” said selector Emílio Peixe.
Russia, who beat Poland 3-2 in the opening game, and Scotland meet at 16:00.
Portugal and Russia play their third and final day on Tuesday at Cappielow Park in Greenock.
The winners of the eight groups and the seven best runners-up (counting results with the first and third) are cleared for the European.
