In 2016, Nuno Baltasar, director of the short film “Doce Lar”, was the first Portuguese selected for this residence.
Cinefondation aims to support young filmmakers at the beginning of their careers, namely through biannual artistic residencies, in progress since 2000, aimed at the development of first projects.
David Pinheiro Vicente was born in the Azores, studied Cinema and Aesthetics at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema, was art director of several short films and television series, and assistant to filmmaker Salomé Lamas, director of documentaries such as “El Dorado” and “Nobody’s land”.
“O Cordeiro de Deus”, a Portuguese-French co-production selected this year for the IndieLisboa and Cannes Festival competitions, is the director’s second short film, after “Onde o Verão Vai (Episodes da Juventude)”, film that had a world premiere in 2018, at the Berlin film festival, in the Berlinale Shorts competition.
This ‘short’ has since been shown at more than 40 festivals, received honorable mentions in San Sebastian and Tel Aviv, as well as the prize for best ‘short’ at the Vila do Conde Festival in 2018. The Arte-ZDF channel included it in your schedule.
“O Cordeiro de Deus” was acquired for exhibition on television and ‘online’ by the channel Arte France.
This year, David Pinheiro Vicente was also included in the list of the ten “Next Young Directors” of the European Film Academy, and among the “Ten New Directors to Follow”, by European Film Promotion.
In addition to David Pinheiro Vicente, the next session of the Cinefondation Residence covers Lucía Aleñar Iglesias, from Spain, Behzad Azadi, from Iran, Marta Hernaiz Pidal, from Mexico, Inbar Horesch, from Israel, and Sameh Morsy, from Egypt.
