The pair of Portuguese fashion designers Marques’Almeida debuts Wednesday in the official calendar of fashion week in Paris, having already integrated the calendars of London and Lisbon.
The parade of the duo, the only one of a Portuguese fashion brand or designer in the official fashion week calendar of the French capital, which starts today and ends on October 2, is scheduled for 12:00 local time (11:00 a.m. Lisbon) at the Palais de Tokyo contemporary art museum.
The Portuguese duo, as well as the other names included in the calendar, will unveil the spring / summer collections of 2019.
Before, they had already integrated the official calendar of fashion week in Paris, the Portuguese Fátima Lopes and Felipe Oliveira Baptista, the latter settled for several years in the French capital.
Composed by Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida, the pair Marques’Almeida participated since 2010 in the London Fashion Week, where they settled in 2009.
The first parade in London took place in September 2011, with the support of New Gen, a platform that sponsors a number of new designers every year, giving them the opportunity to be part of the official London fashion week calendar.
Since then, every six months, they have presented their collections in the British capital. The last time was in February of this year.
The duo, who has the bargain as the material of choice and the 1990s, particularly the grunge movement, as a base inspiration, even presented collections in Portugal at ModaLisboa. The first time was in October 2011, the last one, two years later.
In 2014 they were awarded the Emerging Talent – Women’s Fashion category of the British Fashion Council of the British Fashion Council (BFC) and in 2015 they received the LVMH award for Young Fashion Designers. This year, they were finalists of the BFC / Vogue Designer Fashion Fund award.
The notoriety achieved opened doors for the invitation in 2014 to create a collection for the Topshop chain store and, in 2015, to design the wardrobe for the fashion gala show of the New York ballet company.
In October of this year, they return to present collections in Portugal, but, this time, in Portugal Fashion, whose next edition takes place in October in Oporto.
It is with the support of Portugal Fashion that Marques’Almeida makes its debut in Paris.
According to the project, under the responsibility of ANJE – National Association of Young Entrepreneurs, “in Paris, the pair intends to inaugurate a new strategy to approach the market, favoring proximity to customers.”
“Although the brand is Portuguese and develops its commercial activity from London, Paris is the city where they usually complete their business, after the presentation of the collections in the English capital,” the PF said in a statement.
On the same day as the Marques’Almeida fashion show, the parades of the collections of Portuguese fashion designers Diogo Miranda and Luís Buchinho take place in Paris, also with the support of Portugal Fashion, but outside the official calendar, “completing another stage of their process of internationalization “.
Diogo Miranda presents the collection at 13:30 local time and Luís Buchinho at 18:30, both at the University of Paris Descartes.
