The Festival, which presents itself as a window to publicize the international panorama of short films, has its 49th edition scheduled from June 11th to 19th, with 75 films in the different competitive sections.
Among the thirty films in the official Ibero-American selection are ‘Elo’, by Alexandra Ramires, ‘Moço’, by Bernardo Lopes, and ‘Noite Perpétua‘, by Pedro Peralta.
‘Elo’ is a graphite animation on paper and without dialogues, with an argument by Alexandra Ramires and writer Regina Guimarães. It is the first film in Alexandra Ramires’ own name, after having co-signed “Água Mole“, with Laura Gonçalves.
Produced by Bando à Parte, in co-production with France, “Elo” has already been shown in around 30 festivals and exhibitions, and has a dozen awards.
‘Moço’, Bernardo Lopes’ new short film, produced by Fado Filmes and starred by Tomás Andrade. It will make its international debut in Spain, after being shown at IndieLisboa and Caminhos do Cinema Português, where it won the Revelation Award.
Pedro Peralta will have in Huesca the film ‘Perpetual Night‘, which he had already presented in 2020 in San Sebastián, and whose plot is related to the recent history of Spain, of the post-civil war.
‘Perpetual Night‘ recreates a situation that took place in 1939 in Castuera, where Matilde Morillo Sanchez, the wife of a Republican, was approached at home by two guards to ‘take a walk’. Realizing that she was going to be executed, the woman asks to breastfeed her newborn daughter before leaving.
In this competitive Iberoamerican section of the Huesca festival, a prize of 5,000 euros will be awarded, and the distinguished film will be automatically pre-selected in the application process for an Oscar nomination.
