Portuguese films selected for the Festival Visions du Réel
The festival will take place from 15 to 25 April.
In the international competition of medium and short films are “Sortes,” by Mónica Martins Nunes, and “Timkat”, by Ico Costa, both in a world premiere.
“Sortes“, with 38 minutes of duration, is a film with Luso-German production, rotated in Alentejo, registering the human and rural landscape of Serra de Serpa, marked for desertification.
To live in Berlin, Mónica Martins Nunes is still author of the film “in gray is heat” (2016).
“Timkat,” of Ico Costa, was shot in Ethiopia and records a religious ritual of purification and baptism, which brings together thousands of people by the Jordan River.
The long “ALVA” (2019) and the short “NYO VWETA NAFTA” (2017) are other films already signed by Ico Costa.
In the “Latitudes” section of the Visions du Réel will be the film “in the taxi of Jack“, that the Portuguese Susana Noble had already presented in February at the Berlin Film Festival.
In the film, which intertwines elements of documentary and fiction, Susana Noble tells the story of Joaquim sidewalk, ancient aircraft and driver, who was emigrated in the United States and returned two decades later to Portugal, to reform.
This year, the Visions du Réel will fulfill the 52th edition only in virtual mode, with the channeled programming for the online exhibition because of the health restrictions in Switzerland.
